invest & drawwipe, 2010-2011

All constructed elements of the installation are in wood with the front side painted ivory. A wall drawing next to a small copper piece on the wall invites the visitors to sit and read the newspapers, take and read the blueprints and spin the wheel of fortune.

The entrance piece of the installation is the invest-panel (260 x 220 x 3.2 cm) which is made out of silk-screen (text, 59.4 x 21.74 cm) on canvas mounted on a mobile carriage (262 x 189 x 103 cm, four wheels). the text says: “Chile: Invest now! Extraordinary possibilities are opening towards new stimulation of all economic activities, also in the field of real estate. Capital and know-how are sought. We offer coordination via the 25-year-old office of our partner in Santiago. Our partner is here and will soon return to Chile. Inquiries: Rückert VDM, 8022 Gründwald b. München, Primelweg 5. Tel. 0811 / 6 41 13 55.” This advertisement was published in the german newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) on September 21, 1973. Behind the carriage, objects unfold in space. Using a table and a chair, one can read two original editions of the newspaper FAZ, from September 12, 1973, and September 21, 1973.

A blueprint fixed on the wall at the entrance of the installation next to the invest-panel shows the portrait of Margaret Thatcher from 1979 and her famous quote: “ . . . and who is society? There is no such thing! There are individual men and women and there are families and no government can do anything except through people and people look to themselves first.” In the middle of the room a bed is fixed at an angle between stop-panel and wealth-complex, an ensemble made out of a blueprint rack, sixteen blueprints and a blueprint table. Three videoscreens are mounted on the vertical elements and a fourth one is to be discovered under the bed. The first story is the missionary, on economy as religion. In the video paradise you can trust, one can see images of a model apartment for the middle class. In the one entitled the thigh syndrome, a man is sitting and clapping with his hands on his thighs. In drawwipe, someone is drawing maps, erasing borders, drawing new lines again. The last object in the installation is the wheel of fortune with the I AM/I HAVE diagramm.
