The photo "I am a woman why are you not ?" was staged in 1994 in the painting depot in the basement of the Kunstmuseum Bern. The woman in the picture with the axe on her shoulder is leaving the painting behind her, in fact she is on her way out of the storage room. With a self-confident and determined step, she leaves the patriarchal power space behind her.
The motif of the woodcutter goes back to a commission (1908) from the Swiss Federal Council and the National Bank for the first Swiss 50-franc banknote, described in detail in the publication of the show “Hodler's Woodcutter, The Successful Swiss Series”, Kunstmuseum Luzern, 2021.
